Descripción

This project develops a selected waterfront fragment near Malmö University, identified in Phase 1 as a key urban boundary with high potential for transformation. The proposal redefines the edge between the university campus, the canal, and the surrounding public space by transforming it from a linear boundary into an inhabitable, green urban threshold. The intervention introduces a grouping of linear buildings (lamellas) arranged around shared green open spaces. This spatial structure ensures permeability, visual continuity, and a strong relationship between architecture, landscape, and the existing promenade along the canal. The buildings frame the open space without blocking movement, creating a protected and comfortable microclimate for everyday use.

This spatial structure ensures permeability, visual continuity, and a strong relationship between architecture, landscape, and the existing promenade along the canal. The buildings frame the open space without blocking movement, creating a protected and comfortable microclimate for everyday use. The ground floors of the lamellas are dedicated to student- oriented public programs, allowing activities to extend seamlessly from indoor spaces into the surrounding greenery. This enables students to study, socialize, and relax both inside and outdoors. The green areas function as collective gardens and informal outdoor study spaces, while the nearby canal and promenade strengthen the connection to water. The project demonstrates how an urban boundary can be transformed into an active, social, and ecological interface that supports student life and enhances the relationship between Malmö University, nature, and the city.
