First layer / General view of the city In this first layer, Utrecht is shown in its variety. The river and its branches, main roads, parks, and green spaces are visible. Mobility is key: residents move easily using bike lanes, buses, trams, and trains connecting neighborhoods and the region. This network allows efficient daily movement while integrating green areas and historic buildings. Waterways, streets, and transport reveal how the city functions and how mobility shapes life in Utrecht. Second layer / Simplified map focused on water From the water, we created a simplified map showing Utrecht’s essence. Vegetation, historic buildings, and the modern area around the train station interact with rivers and canals. It shows how urbanization shaped the waterways and how streets follow or contrast with them. This approach highlights the role of water in the city and how heritage, modernity, and nature coexist.
