Our analyses reveal strong fragmentation in the urban fabric: green spaces are scattered and separated by major road infrastructures, while built areas cluster by function, creating breaks between neighborhoods and limiting ecological continuity. Based on this finding, and inspired by the idea of an “urban park” where nature structures movement and uses, we developed a realistic strategy to reconnect these spaces. It is built around four complementary actions in our Malmö study area: greening public squares, greening flat rooftops, creating permeable parking areas, and greening canal banks. Together, these actions reduce fragmentation and contribute to a more coherent, sustainable, and nature-rich urban environment.
